The plot is pretty strange for a game of this kind, a group of castaways is blocked on a desert island and must survive, escape, and uncover the deepest mysteries of the island. The plot, the combat system, and the characters are all well done. 2017-09-12 · Ys VIII is, without a doubt, a huge step for the franchise. In stripping away a lot of the usual narrative tropes the series is usually known for, Nihon Falcom have put a fresh spin on the franchise that puts characters and small moments over grand adventures and vast mysteries. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is the follow up to Ys: Memories of Celceta.. It’s an action RPG which at its heart is all about adventuring and exploration.

We initially planned on playing all versions of the game before publishing this review, however at the time of writing we’ve only been able to play the PS4 and PS Vita The latest, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, is the first new Ys game in four years, and features the series’ largest scale yet in terms of sheer content volume. The Ys spirit burns brightly in Ys VIII, but this rollicking action RPG narrowly misses the mark for excellence thanks to a flat localization and lethargic pacing.
